Native WordPress Coming to the iPhone. . .Probably
Minor news outlets and bloggers have been posting up a storm today talking about native WordPress support on the iPhone. It started a few days ago when a video was released of head WordPress’er Matt Mullenwag discussing the future of WordPress. In the presentation (which I believe was given at WordCamp Dallas) Matt mentioned many interesting things about WordPress’ future. He talked about WordPress core file integrity checking, increased usability testing and native support for WordPress on mobile devices. While Matt never mentioned that WordPress is coming to the iPhone, he did state WordPress was coming to a mobile device adding “there are only about 4 or 5 so you can probably guess which one it is.” Speculation it’s the iPhone is pretty hot and given the recent release of the iPhone SDK and the soon to open iPhone application store it’s probably a safe bet.
I’ve done a bit of blogging from the iPhone using the Safari web browser. Actually, I’m proud to say this very blog was installed from an iPhone. Even with native support for WordPress on the iPhone the screen size and keyscreen make writing and editing longer posts somewhat challenging. For shorter, “as it’s happening” type stuff, I’m sure WordPress on the iPhone will be a pretty good answer to the mobile blogging question. Sounds like we’ll find out soon enough.
